Quit Smoking Support

Encouraging and supporting staff and students to quit is an important step in achieving a smokefree/auahi kore school/kura. These New Zealand services provide information and support for quitting smoking.
Face to Face
There are many face-to-face quitting services you can choose from.
- Health Centres and local GPs
Your local health centre or GP can provide you with support and advice to help you quit. - Aukati KaiPaipa
The Aukati KaiPaipa programme provides one-on-one counselling to help people quit smoking. Although developed for Māori women and their whānau, it is open to all. -
Find a Local Service
There are many different services available including specialised services for Pacific and Asian smokers in some areas. Find out where your local services are at the Cancer Society's Quit Smoking website or the Smokefree Contacts Map.

- Quitline
The Quitline is a free quit smoking telephone help line. Callers can request a quit pack which has practical quit smoking advice and information, talk to a Quit Advisor for one-on-one support or get exchange cards for subsidised nicotine patches or gum where suitable. Call 0800 778 778 to speak to a Quit Adviser.

Sign up for Txt2Quit and get TXT message support sent straight to your mobile. Getting TXT messages can help keep your motivation up and give you some advice and support along the way as you quit.

- Smokestop
Smokestop is a three-month online programme consisting of a series of sessions, each lasting 10-15 minutes. By following through the sessions you will be fully prepared for quit day, and have effective strategies to stay smokefree. Smokestop provides essential support throughout your journey to become smokefree including email, SMS text messages, live chat and a forum. - QuitBlog
The 'Quitblog' is hosted by the Quit Group website and allows people trying to quit to share their experiences with others. It is free to join and helps you connect with people going through the same experiences.
